About BibliON
BibliON, the free digital library of the state of São Paulo, is an initiative of the Secretariat of Culture, Economy and Creative Industry of the state of São Paulo, and is managed by SP Leituras. Created from a pilot project, it was launched in January 2020 with over a thousand books. Currently the platform offers its subscribers a collection of approximately 17 thousand books and also a series of cultural events.
In conjunction with the São Paulo State System of Public Libraries, BibliON provides training for professionals in the areas of Culture, Librarianship and Information Science, Reading and Literature. Furthermore, it aims to expand and enhance the supply of books and activities for all libraries in the state of São Paulo.
In 2023, BibliON was the winner of the Seleção Mobile Award in the category Innovation with Social/Environmental Impact through popular vote. And it was also a finalist for the PublishNews Award in the Innovation of the Year category.
Collection
Currently, BibliON’s collection consists of digital books, audiobooks, videos and audios, available for loan to everyone. The diversity of titles covers general literature, romance, children’s fiction, poetry, biography, fantasy, philosophy, thrillers and many other genres. The collection also includes social sciences, humanities, health and many other areas of knowledge.
By providing free online books, the library contributes to the publishing market and guarantees the protection of copyright and intellectual property of everyone involved in the production of the work.
Cultural programming
BibliON also has a diverse cultural program, including online reading clubs aimed at different audiences and genres, training, workshops and chats with writers, in addition to the production of podcasts and video series.
How does it work?
The user can borrow up to two books simultaneously, for 15 days. On the BibliON app it is possible to organize lists, mark favorite books, share a book as a reading tip on social media, reserve a book, view your history and suggest new books purchases. The search system allows the user to use different filters, such as theme, author, category and title. Books can be previously downloaded into a mobile device for later reading without the need to use cell phone data. The application also has accessibility features such as font size and screen contrast, different reading modes for day or night and texts reading with synthesized voice.
To use this free service, simply register and download the application available on Google Play and the Apple Store.
